Verizon to snap up Carolina West Wireless network

Verizon is set to snap up regional US carrier Carolina West Wireless later this year.

An agreement was announced earlier this week that will see Wilkesboro-based Carolina West Wireless transition its wireless network to Verizon.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Carolina West Wireless noted that it will stop providing wireless services as of September 30, 2026.

“This decision was made with the future of our customers and communities at the forefront,” said Slayton Stewart, CEO, Carolina West Wireless.

“The wireless industry increasingly requires greater scale and investment to deliver the next generation of connectivity. We believe our customers and communities will benefit from continued innovation, expanded resources, and the strong network performance they rely on every day.”

In a post on LinkedIn, Stewart noted that the company has had a long-standing partnership with Verizon during his 21 years as CEO.

"As we evaluated the future, our Board carefully considered what path would best serve our customers and communities over the long term. The answer is rooted in a relationship that spans more than 20 years. Verizon has been a trusted partner of Carolina West Wireless throughout that time, and we believe it is uniquely positioned to build upon the foundation our employees and owners have created," he added.

Beyond offering its own postpaid mobile services, Carolina West Wireless also operates Bark Mobile, a prepaid service, and Clearstream, an FWA offering. These services will also be impacted by the Verizon agreement, reported Light Reading.

Carolina West Wireless was founded 35 years ago, and provides wireless services across 11 North Carolina counties. The company is owned by a partnership consisting of Skyline Telephone and Surry Communications.
